Q4 2025 Newsletter
The digital world has become a minefield for businesses of every size. In Buffalo and across Western New York, cybercriminals are getting smarter, and small to mid-sized companies are finding themselves in the crosshairs more often than ever. Hackers are constantly looking for new ways to sneak past defenses, steal data, and disrupt daily operations. No business is too small or too local to be a target anymore. Here are five major cyber threats every business owner should keep on their radar right now.
1. AI-Driven Phishing Attacks
Traditional phishing emails are easier to spot, but cybercriminals now use artificial intelligence to craft messages that appear highly authentic. AI can mimic tone, writing style, and even generate context-specific details that make fraudulent messages convincing. A single employee clicking the wrong link could expose sensitive company data.
Microsoft Forms for Smarter Data Collection
Below are practical tips to help you design forms that are easy to complete, insightful to analyze, and compliant with privacy standards.
- Define Clear Objectives - Every question should have a purpose. Avoid filler or repetitive questions that do not directly support your data collection goals. Defining objectives ahead of time ensures that each response adds measurable value.
- Use Branching Logic - Branching allows yo
u to display or hide questions based on a user’s previous response. This makes forms shorter, easier to complete, and more personalized for each participant. - Limit Open-Ended Questions - While open text fields can capture detailed insights, too many make results difficult to analyze. Use multiple-choice or dropdown questions when possible to keep data consistent and easier to interpret.
- Give Users Control - Always be transparent about how information is stored and used. Provide respondents with the option to remain anonymous or opt out of sharing personal identifiers. This builds trust and aligns with modern privacy expectations.
Catch of the Quarter: The HR Impersonation Scam
Scammers are posing as members of a company’s HR department, sending emails that look official and urgent. These messages often ask employees to “verify” personal details, update payroll information, or complete new onboarding forms.
How to Stay Safe: Always verify HR-related requests through your company’s official communication channels. Do not click on links or download attachments from unexpected emails, even if they appear legitimate. When in doubt, contact your HR department directly to confirm the message.
